Dining Table Bench

A new trend that has seemed to make quite an impact on how our families are seated at the dinner table is the dining table bench. I tried this in our house last year and we are all really liking it! I think with young children it can be a bit easier to get in and out of and can help sitting at the dinner table a bit more fun and easy. I have seen and implemented this design a couple of different ways. In some cases a dining bench is used on both long sides of the table leaving just the host and hostess chairs and in other cases I have seen and used the host and hostess chairs, two side chairs on a long side and the dining bench on the other side. This style selection will be based on your space and your preference.

One thing to note when deciding if this design selection is right for you, consider how a bench will fit under your table. For example, if you have a trestle table you would need to measure the width between the trestles compared to the desired bench. But this look can be a great one to help keep a space feeling more open, larger and inviting. And you can pile several little ones on one bench for fun family meals with friends!

Here are a few spaces that have made great use out of the dining bench concept~

This concept is also a great way to create a non ‘matchy matchy’ look in your home. It can certainly be hard for our logical brains to accept several different seating styles around one table but with the proper pieces you will love your new and unique dining space!

  1. I found you through Emily Clark’s blog, and am now addicted! I went pinning crazy from your Houzz site. It’s nice to see a designer with an appreciation for window treatments and what they do for a room. I just wanted to let you know I love your work!
