Summertime means hanging out in the back yard, grilling burgers and sipping drinks by the pool. Whether you are hosting a small get together, a chic outdoor dinner or even the neighborhood pool party, I have all the tips you need for making the most of your outdoor space.
Plan out your spaces
Seating is an important aspect of any summer party, so be sure to have plenty of tables and chairs. One of my favorite ways to provide seating is to use garden stools and benches around the back yard. The best part is, they double as a chic design element! Just keep in mind that the seating shouldn’t be too close to the grill. Setting up a play space for the kids before they arrive is also important, and will make your guests feel as though you’ve thought about each member of the family. Have games prepared for both kids and parents like corn hole, bocce ball, and badminton if you have the space.
Transform your table
Here, the possibilities are endless, but a great tip is to use tall candles on your table, and lots of them! The height of the candles will lift your table scape design and make it look chic. The light from the candles will also provide a dreamy atmosphere once the sun sets. If you are pressed for space, use elevated serving plates and let mother nature’s flowers provide the color!
Add the right colors
After a day at the beach, nothing is more refreshing than jumping in the water! That’s one of the reasons blue is top of mind when I design outdoor spaces. Blues, white and greens all give you a feeling of being cooler, which is always a plus in the summer heat. One of my favorite outdoor spaces includes these light blue buffalo checked chairs surrounded by lush greenery.
Keep your cool
We all know how hot a southern summer can be, so be sure to avoid events during the afternoon hours. Instead, try morning mimosas with the girls, a late afternoon get-together or a gorgeous dinner under candlelight. No matter what you choose, your guests will appreciate beating the heat of the day (and so will you!).
