It’s that time of year when the sparkling lights come down and the wonder of the Christmas tree gets packed away or even worse gets kicked to the curb. The sentimental ornaments and stockings get tucked into their containers.

Does your house feel naked, dark, lifeless, even a little sad? STOP – before you put back your normal decor and consider a few things that may make your home hold on to some of the beauty and magic of Christmas.
First assess all of the everyday decor you took down before Christmas. Set aside all of the meaningful pieces that you love to look at everyday. Put the chotchkies that have just been place holders into a bin to be donated.

Add some well placed greenery. Consider preserved boxwoods that look beautiful for years to come. Add sturdy plants — not fake — in decorative pottery. If you do go for the faux plants or orchids, buy ones that look real. The greenery will brighten every space in your home and bring the feeling of nature back.

Assess your lighting. The vast majority of us have lamps that are too small beside our furniture. Try to have lamps at least 31″ tall. Consider swapping out that ceiling fan or small ceiling light for a statement piece chandelier that adds light and beauty to the space.

Keep the cozy blankets and pillows for comfort and warmth. We’ll change these out in the spring. You are now ready to tackle the rest of winter with a warm, cozy and refreshed home. Enjoy!
